Well... I have 700 MB or so of RAM installed on my computer. I installed a RAM optimizer (freeRAM xp pro) and usually all i have available is 380 MB of RAM free. Even if i have no applications running i usually get probably 400 MB free... What is making my RAM so low? The other half and a bit is gone.. Installed but i can never use it... So what is causing this? I can only access a bit lower than half of my installed RAM? I have done a disk cleanup and defragmentor./

It's Windows, live with it. Sounds like a good motto for them anyway. What you have to understand is that with Windows comes lots of background services that run constantly, some for no apparent reason. Once you start installing software and other programs, they like to add their own services to your background as well, which continue to unnecessarily eat up your memory and cpu availability.

One unlikely cause is also a security threat such as a virus.
