Is it normal for it to take a while to connect from one computer to another (connected through router, both XP), and almost freeze up? But once connected, the speed is fine. Is this normal or is there something off?

If you're talking about the 30 second pause when you first browse to a computer in Network Places, that's an issue that comes up with XP at times.

Delete the following key from the Registry (after saving)

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

Apparently Windows spends ages looking for "scheduled tasks" on other computers when you browse them thru' Network Neighborhood.

There are other causes for the delays, but this fixes it for me in many cases.

Are you using any 3rd party firewalls like Zonealarm, Sygate, Nortons, etc.?

If so make sure the Windows XP firewalls are disabled. It can cause slow downs that appear to be a stall or temporary freeze up at times if you are running any other firewall.
