My cousin has a problem with his new power supply.its an enermax liberty 620w dual rail.
his cpu fan and the power fan work but the case fans dont work.if he plugs in the hard drives it wont power at all. (cpu fan spin for 1 sec)
whats weird is he tested his old psu(antec neopower 480w dual rail) and it does the exact same thing now.
anyone have an idea what the problem could be?
ah yeah his mb is an asus p5gd1,p4 640(3.2) and a thermaltake tsunami dream

Also we tryed his old PSU (antec neopower 480w dual rail) on a known working computer and it also fails to power it up. same thing, if we don't have a hard drive or cd rom power plugged then the CPU fan and PSU fan does come on..
if we plug something else then it only spins for 1 sec then stops.

been tryed in different power bars and outlets.

thanks.

If you've tried multiple power supplies, then you probably don't have a P/S issue. Off-hand it sounds like a MB issue. I'd start by checking all the connections, and perhaps clearing the CMOS to factory defaults.

Well when we tryed his 'old PSU' which was working before. on my working computer it would also do the same.
and we did take out the batery and change the jumper for 10 sec then jumper back and reseat the batery.

but once it did the same on my second computer i thought either its not the motherboard. or its both thats somehow shorting and refusing the second half of power up.(second rail since PSU and CPU fans will come one) as long as no HD is attached.

Or the pSU's AI is just really up there and looking for bribes.

well 'older computer' as in he's using the same build , except he ordered a new PSU (more watts on the double rails) and a new video card.. I think the 1950 xt or something
so we tryed his PSU first , card is still in its anti static bag waiting...
will be great upgarde once its up and running.
kinda weird to think or say both PSU are ****ed now... not sure if there are fragile as butterflies.

Good call, that's the exact symptom that my MB's with the bad caps had. How could I forget that?
