I remember creating or being part of a thread that discussed some special plug that's designed to protect your precious Mac from those electrical power surges that occurs after power outages and brownouts, so that a power surge won't wreck the Mac's inner mechanism...

But I have forgotten that devices name.
If anyone can help me...I thank ye :)

Recommend looking at the APC models - quite good reputation, reviews.

Make sure to match the right model to your needs, and also look at how long the battery will last if total power failure, if you want that version, along with the ability to auto-shutdown, for example if you are not present when the lights go out... ;)

I would also reccomend getting a surge protector (unless the APC does that too), you can set your mac to restart automatically after a power failure if you want in the system preferences>energy saver

A good UPS will also act as a surge protector since the power is being fed out of the battery. Get the bigger one rather than the smaller one.

If you are getting a lot of noise and surges through the power line, it would be a good idea to power all your peripherals through the UPS. That is why you need one with a lot of muscle. If the spikes are occurring because your line is part of your household circuitry and there are a lot of things on the line the people are turning on and off, it would be good to get an electrician in to separate your system from the other circuits in your house.

Ah, I actually had a surge protector at home which I'm currently using now and its brandname is "Fellowes". Don't know if its good though, hopefully it'll protect my Mac and my other electrical appliances. Any of you guys hear about it?

Depends upon what model, and if you are just looking at a basic power strip surge protector, or something more hefty, w/ more real protection. ;)

The way I look at it, I've got quite a bit invested in this electronics, and since electrical power is not always reliable and/or smooth, along w/ being prone to lightning, the purchase of a dedicated UPS + surge protection is like insurance, plus when it can dampen spikes and brownouts, it actually can prolong the life of these computers, etc.
