Ok , So I Have a great idea for some software and I want to try and sell it on the internet.


I have written the software.I have the web space , I have the domain , I am all ready to set up my pay pal account. Once the customer has paid they would be redirected back to my site and able to download.

However being new to this stuff , I can’t work out how to ensure that only the people that have paid can access the download. I dont want to use passwords,less well behaved readers will just exchange the password and allow people free downloads. I have no money to pay for flashy software , I just want to make sure that the site that paypal (or whatever) directs the customer back to, can’t be accessed by anyone but them .


Anybody able to advise or point me to any web links that could help ?

I'm not sure how to actually implement this, but you can do "one-time" passwords, that can only be used once, and once they are used, the same person will need to send you an email and prove they actually purchased the software.

this is a problem with all software... McAfee have a similar sort of thing, however they have one password to it, and are allowing you to download it as much as you like from that password, however after X number of days/months/years whatever, it closes & you can't download it again without re-purchasing.

check out: http://siliconrealms.com for protecting your software from hackers. Once your software is downloaded...it can be given away to everyone and anyone. It can also be made avail for free via the internet. Your software can be resold, given away or? after downloading. You may consider a trial version with unlocking code per cpu or user. Require unique personal info from registered users inbeded in their software license. If they give it away...they are given away their unique personal info. The unique personal infor could be displayed in the "about" box or at bottom of main page. It will also provide you with knowledge as to the copy being hacked or misused, given away, etc.
