I am running XP pro with an NTFS second hard disk and am unable to delete a certain file from my hard drive. Whenever I try to delete the file I recieve an error message saying that the file is in use by another user or program, even when there are no other programs running and there is only my user account activated.

I have tried deleting the file through safe mode (which made no difference) and through the command prompt (which didn't work because the file name contained a space and so couldn't find the file).

If anybody has any suggestions of ways to solve this problem or has encountered the same thing their help would be greatly appreciated as the file is taking up a large amount of my hard disk.

Hope to hear from somebody soon

Does the file belong to a specific program? If that program is running in the system tray, you may not be able to delete the file. It could also just be running in the backgroud. Some files are also shared between multiple programs. Check your Task Manager.
