Hope someone can help me,as I'm at the end of my tether.
Just changed ISP's,went from Bigpond to Digiplus.Digiplus supplied new Netcomm nb5 modem.Had initial trouble with easy config software as supplied with modem, ended up configuring manually.Towards the end of the configuration process when the program checks the modem connection ,it continually fails, and gives a check cables message. It is a ethernet connection and everything looks right, exactly how my previous Speedtouch modem was connected.
The problem is,the nb5 keeps disconnecting after about 10 hours of inactivity when my computer is shut down, but the modem is still on.When I start up the computer I have no connection, but if I unplug the modem and then repower it it connects straight away.Any time less than roughly ten hours it remains connected, and there are no dramas when I start up the computer.Digiplus's tech support ran all the diagnostics ,and it remains the same, even with the replacement modem they have just sent me which has updated firmware.Surely the problem lies in the modem itself if it disconnects while the computer is shut down.I am not super computer literate and would apprecite any advice before I contact Netcomm and bore it up them.it seems that no-one can diagnose the problem, only saying the problem is not at their end. Thanks Alby28

quite a lot to read there all in one paragraph

1) so the modem works OK - it just disconnects after 10 hours
2) You have had a secind modem with later firmware - which also disconnects after 10hours

you sure they do not have some kind of inactivity disconnection running on the ISP - if they see a IP address which has been idle they release the IP.

You often get an IP address on a lease and that may be the expirey of the lease if not used or connected

when you are connected post an ipconfig /all

TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.
