I turned on my computer and i received a pop up saying ' Found new hardware: PCI Device'
Ever since then my audio is not working. The programs for audio such as SoundMax and Windows own volume control completely disappeared. I have not removed any hardware e.g soundcard. How can i fix this?

I would first try a System Restore to before it happened. If that doesn't work, what is the motherboard manufacturer and model, and what version of Windows is running (including service pack)?

Try to start you computer in safe mode. While computer is booting, continously gently tap the F8 key. This should open the "safe mode" page. Use the arrow keys to move up to "last known good configuration" choice, click enter.
Let the computer do it's thing.
Post back and let us know how it goes.

I did so, it simply just changed my resolution. Everything is the same as before. Thanks.
Although when i did this, a few seconds after the desktop was booted, the screen went incredibly pixelated. A simple restart fixed the pixel problem.

You can get the audio driver here:http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=G31M-GS&o=XP

If the audio driver doesn't work, or installs but you receive errors that the driver cannot start, follow this procedure:
Go into Device Manager and disable the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) driver under System Devices.
Uninstall the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) driver under System Devices.
Re-try the Realtek audio driver installation.

I tried both of these things. I extracted the rar file and then used the setup found inside. The files are in my program files but i have no audio and the control panel for the audio doesnt appear on my toolbar.

Since uninstalling the UAA i now have two 'Found New Hardware: PCI Device'
