I was using FTP to download some files from a government web site, and now whenever I try to enter a URL in the address bar of IE, I experience a delay of about 30 seconds before I'm able to actually type in the URL. It's almost as if the computer is searching to see if it can find the URL I'm about to type in. I've noticed that if I clear my history, I no longer experience the delay, however I don't want to clear my history as there are URLs listed in it that I re-use. Is there some other way of resolving this?

2 things you might try.

From your browser, go to Tools, Internet Options. Delete cookies and Delete Files (before you Delete Files, make certain you've saved any downloaded files first).

In the same window, head to the Programs tab. Click the drop down beside the HTML editor, and make certain it's the correct one. Apply and OK.
