Hello there,
My friends computer is having problems booting to Windows 98. for some reason his computer just shut down and when he tried booting again, he received the following message;

type the name of the Command Interpreter(e.g. C:\Windows\Command.com

What would I need to do to correct this?

thanks

In most cases it means that the drives partition information has been corrupted -- perhaps by a boot sector virus.

Boot with a startup disk and enter:

fdisk /status

If the partition information is correct there may be a chance to save things by transfering system files from the boot disk to the drive. See the link below for a full explanation of the situation.
