hey everyone, here's my problem:

i have a Windows 2000 professional OS with Microsoft Office XP installed. i decided to upgrade my software the other day with Office 2003. when i did that, the Office applications no longer allowed me to open any of my documents! whenever i want to open a word document, for example, it tells me that Word could not open the file and then when i close the application, it tells me that some changes have occured to the Normal template and whether i want to replace them or create a new one. same thing happens when i open in Excell, it just tells me that the file is either not found, or that it cannot open it.. i'm really lost. i don't know what it all means, and i don't know why it happened. someone told me that it occured because office 2003 has bugs and that i should uninstall it and do a complete installation. i did that, and still it didn't work. i'm afraid to return to Office XP and get the same problems because the registry somehow got affected. can someone help me? please don't tell me that i have to reformat :(
Thanks

Two possibilities that I can think of.

1. In any Office 2003 application, go to Help-->Check for Updates. Install the updates.

2. Disable the Norton AntiVirus Office Plug-In. Note that I'm not saying to uninstall NAV.

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. It does
not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:

If the problem is a suspected corrupted normal.dot file, you can just delete it. Word will create a new one next time it starts.

With the Explorer go to the C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME \Application Data\Microsoft\Templates directory and delete the file. USER_NAME will be replaced with the actual user account.
