Kay I have a shared internet connectiom through the Speedstream Modem/Router from my desktop to my laptop and that it working fine, I have file sharing enabled, windows firewall disabled, I went through the network wizard to set them up on the same workgroup... my laptop just can not find the printer... One website said to trying pinging the Ip of the other computer, that doesn't work on either, the desktop can ping itself but the laptop can not. I'm a little over my head here and I was hoping for a little help, as step by step as you can be would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks in advance.

Oh both systems are using Windows XP Service Pack 2

Ping failure usually means a firewall is blocking. And I don't mean the XP firewall unless you explicitly set it to not respond to ICMPs.
