Currently have a functioning network between a Win98 and WFW 3.11
systems. However, I just got a Canon i960 printer ( USB 2) and have
not been able to come up with a way to print from the WFW 3.11
box (except using a dot matrix printer). Is there a way or am I just
wasting my time trying ??

thanks

Are you saying that the Win95 drivers can/should be loaded
on the WFW system ?

The Canon printer is functional on the Win98 box and is
shared. Any attempt to "connect" to the printer from the
WFW box comes back with "share name not found on
system". Using \\computername\sharename format.

thanks

Sorry for the typo, should have been the WFW drivers (if they are included).

But back to the networking. The basics haven't changed since WFW.

The basics for troubleshooting are:

1. Make sure you have the same IP scheme (e.g. 192.168.0.x).

2. Make sure you have the same Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS IP addresses.

3. Make sure you can ping the other computers by name.

4. Make sure you have the same workgroup name (watch for trailing spaces)

But I can't recall if I've tested WFW with Win98. Just too far back and too many brain cells have died off since then. Can you create a basic drive share and connect to that, just to start with something simpler.

So the networking is ok.

Can you try networking with another printer, possibly one that uses an LPT port. You also might want to check with Canon's support to see if this is even possible. There are some that won't network across different operating systems. You also have the added complexity of mixing a 16 bit OS with a 32 bit one.
