I'm new to this forum so if this is a silly question please forgive me. I work at a High school as a Tech coordinator, the problem that I'm having is students wasting printer paper. When a teacher logs in to there PC and leaves the room a student will sit at the PC and start print arbitrary things from the web.

I need some suggestions on how I can stop this from happening is it possible to implement a password on the print query. Meaning if a student hits print they will need a password to do so.

Get the teacher to log off the id or lock the computer, when she leaves the computer and room. (Control Alt Delete then Lock Computer) I am presuming that each teacher has to log into their name anyway and that each classroom is used by more than one teacher, so that means they would be well versed in what their username and passwords is.

I agree, this is easy to solve, you don't allow the computer to be logged into the teacher's account when they're not at the computer!

This is Computer Security 101.

At my school, they have a program like they use at the local library that sends a print request to the admin computer that is in the "Staff Only" room that is always monitored, if not occupied. I am not sure what the program is called, but it requires everyone to send a print request. Of course, the easiest way to prevent this is just getting the teachers to log out OR restrict the amount of paper to each room.

If the teachers know the kids are 'difficult' then why on earth don't they adopt proper security for their pc accounts??

What if a kid sent a 'poison pen' email from a teacher's email account or downloads porn through an unsecured teacher's account?

How would that teacher be able to save their career and prove they didn't do that download???

Makes me shudder that teachers are taking those risks ...

To access accounts if on a server it will be part of the server program if computers run from the server, also the case when looking at permissions for the printer, if you are not running off a server but just have a local network then it's part of the operating system, and which ever one is operating as the main one, it all depends on the set up as to how you change this all.
