Do I need to buy a new printer cable if I am replacing my printer? My HP 722C of 8 years just wore out, and I'm planning to replace it with an HP D4160. Thanks.

Yes you will need a different cable. The 722C is a parallel printer and your new printer will be USB. But the able shouldn't be more then a few dollars($10 or less). Don't bother buying an expensive cable because it makes no difference.

If you spend $10 for a USB cable, you need to change stores. :D

Staples (where I bought the printer) was charging $24.99 for a USB cable, and Radio Shack was charging $39.99. If it can really be bought for under $10, then where should I go? Or are you talking about something different from the USB cables I saw at those stores?

I can't think of a retail brick and mortar store that will sell a USB cable for a low price. You might try Wal-Mart or Target. Buying online will add shipping charges, so include those when you're looking at cost.

Hell, OfficeMax or OfficeDepot have USB cables for less than $10, as well as MicroCenter locally. I'll agree that they're cheaper on-line, but $25 to $40 is highwary robbery!

hi well i think if you order it online it costs you more. The cable you need to use should be v2.0 and not longer then six feet.on the web that costs you $24.99 but i think you can get it much cheaper at store as that does not include state and shipment tax.thanks

The place I work at sells them for about $4 for 6' - and thats Canadian. But you go to any big box store and its $20 and up, thats one of their money grabs. I bought a DVI to HDMI cable from work for $15 while Futureshop wanted over $100 for one.

It's difficult to buy a USB 1.1 cable at any price anymore, and anyone that buys a USB 2.0 cable for $25 or more is a sucker.

You seem to be in reverse mode on a lot of things. It sounds like you are shopping the wrong online stores and what store does not charge state tax anyway?

Thanks. I ordered it from Newegg. The cable is fine, but I had a lot of trouble installing the drivers for the printer. I thought this was supposed to be easy.

When installing a USB printer, you need to follow the instructions that come with the printer TO THE LETTER. Sometimes they say to install the drivers first before connecting any cables.

Did you follow the instructions that came with the printer?
