A friend of mine has a Dell Laptop running Windows XP, everthing was fine and then she turned it on one day and now she gets the error message "Primary hard drive not found". Where should we start to elevate the problem. Hopefully this doesnt mean that everthing is gone. Thanks for any help that anyone may give.

Look into the BIOS and see if you can see the hard drive from there. If not, do an auto detect, that is if that feature is there. Remove the drive, if your comfortable doing that, and make sure that the connection is solid. Its not unusual for a hard drive to just die like this. It happens a lot.
