Is there a great difference in performance between these two Cpu's or is it just cache related

Since you are comparing Northwood and Prescott obviously you are using a socket 478 board.

I've built with both cores and never really saw any appreciable difference in performance between the Northwood 512kb L2 cache and the Prescott 1mb L2 cache.

In the socket 478 processors, personally I liked the Northwood core better than Prescott since it ran cooler.
