Hi,
I have a Compaq pressario notebook 2170US in which Ive done something carlessly stupid.
I was attempting to plug my ac adapter in while not paying attention, and accidently plug it into my network port. Now it is completely dead when using battery or adapter. I know I've
blowned something not sure of what or what parts I should order. Your help is appreciated

A standard ethernet port would suffer only mechanical damage, not electrical damage in my view. Even then it would be surprising as the standard laptop DC jack is smaller than the opening of a network port.

Just tried it here and that is the case, perhaps you could be a little more specific about the nature of the port that you plugged the DC adaper jack into?

The network adapter may be combined with the modem card, or fully integrated with the motherboard. Unsure on that model.

If you have destroyed it somehow that I cannot imagine, then you may need to buy a PCMCIA network card, as repair of the motherboard may be uneconomic (replacement)
