Have intermittent power failure on factory built PC. About 1 in 20 times is turned on it fails to connect. Take power out of back of unit, leave for 5 min. and then turn on again. This works. What is happening?

Sounds like either the psu,or the power on switch is going bad. Open the computer and check all connections to make sure they are tight. I could also be a bad power cord from the wall outlet to the psu.

This is often a sign of a dodgy/failing power supply unit (PSU) rather than the pushbutton.

Removing the power to enable the power supply to "reset" (capacitors to discharge) does not immediately suggest the pushbutton as a cause either.

Good Evening Happy Chappies, it sounds like one of those PSU's that has the "lie down and die" feature (foldover) but it has gone awry.
Certainly odd.
I have experienced a PSU power socket where the pins that enter the power lead had overheated and migrated to become a hight resistance kind of problem.

Either way sounds like a PSU, but do try another power lead.

G'day Kiwi, a bit warmer over there now, it is here. 24 C at 1910 hrs.

qldit.
