Hi everyone!

I am looking for help with my dd-wrt router. Here is my setup:

Router 1
TP-Link (Original firmware)
DHCP server
IP: 192.168.1.1
Connected to ISP broadband (dynamic IP)

Router 2
D-Link DIR 600 vB1 (dd-wrt firmware)
DHCP server
IP: 192.168.2.1
Connected to VPN via PPTP WAN (OpenVPN not supported on this dd-wrt firmware)

Other Information
Routers are connected to each other via TP-Link Powerlines
All devices connected to router 2 use the VPN connection
I do not use the Wi-Fi on router 2 but may in the future

Everything works fine except for one thing that has been bothering me. The VPN provider blocks port 25 (outgoing) which means all devices connected to router 2 cannot send emails! Is there a way I can setup the router 2 to forward outgoing mail on port 25 to router 1 so it uses my home ISP connection?

I don't mind that my incoming mail will have a different IP to my outgoing - unless this will cause problems, if it does then I would like all mail (incoming and outgoing) to use my router 1 connection.

I've read about iptables with dd-wrt but I can't work out if that is what I need or how to implement it, any help would be appreciated.

WHy do you need to use two routers instead of one? Why now convert the second router to a switch instead and not have a mess? Disable DHCP on the second router and connect the Ethernet cable from the first router to one of the LAN ports on the second router instead of the WAN port and you have your yourself one network instead of two.

Hi Triple6,

Because then I won't have the VPN connection. Router 1 does not support VPN or dd-wrt firmware (I wish it did). I'm not just extending my network - I'm making all devices connect through the VPN.

Can you replace the first router with the second?

What VPN provider are you using? I thought you were using OpenVPN on the router? So are you connecting from the internet to the second router with OpenVPN or are you connecting from within your network to a VPN service over the internet?

Most email providers now provide alternate ports for SMTP, check that yours doesn't support one of the common ones such as 587, 465, or another port.

Hi,

Replacing the first router with the second isn't an option because there is no OpenVPN option on the dd-wrt router. I have to use the WAN PPTP which means I wouldn't be able to connect to my ISP. It's PureVPN and using this guide: https://support.purevpn.com/how-to-setup-pptp-on-ddwrt-router

I've tried alternative ports but I have to use so many email accounts for my work all providers don't provide an alternative to 25 unfortunately.

Putting the second router into the DMZ of the first router may work for your needs.
