I was able to burn any dvd I liked, then it was only dvd rw discs that I could burn to, now I cannot burn any DVD :-( I tried reinstalling Nero and tried Clone DVD instead .... no joy :-(

I can prepare the files for burning in Nero but then all I get is "waiting for the drive to become ready" appearing in a pop up window ( the burn icon is by then greyed out )

I have no idea how to fix this :-( Please help, I have data files to burn etc. I have not interefered ie changed any settings.

Can you read DVD disks with the drive?

Try running the Nero InfoTool and posting the screen about the drive here.

Sounds like the drive is shot. I would also suggest going into Device Manager, find the Plex, uninstall it then reboot. It doesn't sound like a software problem.

I can read disks yes, the info tool data is way too long to post though :-(

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to TSG, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Did you uninstall the DVD as suggested by MysticEyes and reboot? That will sometimes fix these issues. Of course, the drive may have bit the dust, it happens.

Sorry I did mean to add a comment about that ! Yes I did uninstall and reboot, sadly such an easy fix failed. I'm just so unlucky with computers. Always got some kind of problem, software conflict or hardware dying :-( My Plextor is just over a year old, I bought it because of the name and reputation ..... hmnnnn. The machine this drive is installed in was built about a year ago by an i.t. professional using all new components btw, I feel gutted.

I wouldn't worry too much about it I've had a number of burners go bad (4).

As long as you have all software you can get a major brand OEM burner for about $30. I would avoid Samsung and Sony. The LG's are usually pretty good with a lot of different media.
