hi here is the log, any help would be much appreciated, it seems my windows cursors (xp pro) and pointers have been changed by some spyware or the like, turning them into really ugly ones which i would never install! i have taken all the necessary steps, ie spybot, adaware, spyware blaster, cw shredder but no good! cheers in advance

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

First in safe mode click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete:

The C:\WINDOWS\System32\syswrun4x.exe file

Boot back to normal.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart your computer.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.

Go here and do an online virus scan:

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, i followed the instructions, but unfortunately the problem still exists! When i went to delete the file you said to however, it wasnt there at all, and i did make sure to follow all the other instructions closely.I also did a full system scan with norton and trend micro online and nothing. Your log is clean...what are the symptoms you are getting?

Steve, yes every scan with any program i do suggests my pc is clean...thats the weird part. The symptoms are basically these ; My mouse pointer, while still looking the same as usual, gets a rainbow streak running through it every 3 or 4 seconds - its very noticable and irritating. Secondly when you go to resize a window, the little arrow pointers have changed appearance to a new looking one which looks pretty ugly compared to the normal xp one, it animates aswell. On top of that, the performance of the pc has taken an ever so small hit, and once again - these cursors appear to be the culprit! can anyone help? cheers! PS - also i forgot, the windows "waiting" hourglass has changed to a smaller and uglier one which is green, and it appears to make the system ( a very fast system by the way) chug a little each time it loads up.

Should these be the normal standard XP cursers or do you use a custom theme?
Have you tried changing to a different theme?

I hate those modified themes.......usually very badly written.My son has a habit of changing mine to "Blink 182"......whats all that about?
