I need help setting defaults, so that I don't need to do this manually every time I open a new document. I would like the following to be in effect every time I open a new document:

1. Normal view
2. Right and left justification
3. Full page, 100 % view.

Thanks for your help.

I believe you have to apply these preferences to normal.dot, the template on which new files are based.

Go to Tools -- Options -- File Locations. Highlight "User Templates", click Modify. "Folder Name" gives you the full path to your template files. If it's too long to memorise, copy it to Notepad, then Cancel and Close.

Open the file (use the path to navigate to it ; you may need to change "Files of type" to e.g. "All Word docs" to get it to show up). Make the required changes, save & close the file. Close & then re-open Word.

>> set the justification for left and right

This is the bit I didn't get, terminology-wise. Generally speaking, text is either "left-aligned" or "right-aligned" or "justified".

I'm guessing that when opening a new file, the insertion point is at the top & left-aligned. Open your normal.dot and click on the "Justify" button as pictured. Then save & close.

Andy
