I have a Dell Latitude CPx laptop (model number PPX) with an Intel Pentium III processor, 497 MHz and 192 MB of RAM. It has both Windows xp and puppy linux on it (though I am less familiar with linux).

I'll be taking this laptop to university in less than three weeks' time and while it doesn't have a DVD drive, I'd like to be able to play DVDs on it (videos rather than data), so I'm interested in finding an external device I can plug into it, but don't know what exactly to look for. It has a USB 1 port and a slot for an Ethernet card which may or may not help.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Your running an older laptop which is going to be difficult to find the hardware to run at any great compatability.

If you can hang on a little while I am sure someone will come up with an idea for you.

I have one of these, even though it`s a dinosaur, it`s still dependable. CD/dvd drives are still available for these , used and new. I never put a dvd drive in mine, it just has cd rom, but the drives arent that expensive for it. I just use flash drives with it for video, transferring files...ect, you can also copy movies to a flash drive and watch them on it. Do a search for drives for it, or check Ebay, i saw some there a while back. Heres a couple of places, i think they`re even still available from Dell.

The pcmcia card fairnooks listed is a good option also, gives you some expandability.
