Pc won't turn on

410 Views 9 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  PeterOz
I have a pc from aftershockpcsau. It has been working fine for about 6 months now, although today I tried to turn it on and it wouldn't respond. I have checked all the power switches are on, and my motherboard lighting is working, which I believe indicates that the power supply is fine. When I try to boot up the pc from the pushy button on the front panel thingy (where i plug in my headphones and mic), nothing happens. Thanks everyone.

Hi Jake
It has been working fine for about 6 months now,
Is it still under warranty?
You can try a couple of things but you have to be careful not to void warranty.
Have a look on the back of the case is there a CMOS reset button?
The other options involve opening the case

Yes, my pc has a 2-year warranty so it is still under warranty.
On the back of the case, I can't see any buttons/switches so I'm assuming it is located on the motherboard itself.
I would return to shop if close by
If you want to try we can - make sure there are no sealing stickers to void warranty.
Turn off and unplug power
open case - it would help if you could give mother board details.
You can try either.
1) remove cmos battery press on/off button a couple of times to drain all power. Wait 10 min
put battery back in and test.
if step 1 fails.
2) Turn off and unplug power Look on the motherboard for the on/off button connector - remove the 2 wires
put power cord back in then use a small screwdriver or paperclip to short the pins
This will show you what I mean Short to start

Motherboard should have 2 pins to short to clear cmos but we would need specs to find them

My motherboard is for AMD - ASUS B450 TUF PLUS GAMING
1. Power-on button (START) The motherboard comes with a power-on button that allows you to power up or wake up the system. The button also lights up when the system is plugged to a power source indicating that you should shut down the system and unplug the power cable before removing or installing any motherboard component.
Clear CMOS button (CLR_CMOS) Press this button to clear the BIOS setup information only when the systems hangs due to overclocking
