Well..here's the deal. Last night, I was on my PC, and windows came up with those automatic update messages. (Yes, I have XP). Anyways, it told me windows media player had vulnerability issues and had to be patched. So I downloaded the patch...then it told me to restart my computer. Now my computer won't turn on at all. I've tried both the XP CD, and a boot disk...but all it does is go to the screen where it shows the computer companies logo (NEC), and stops there. I don't know what to do..and I don't exactly have money to waste on a new PC, I'm very tight on money..so..anyone know what I can do to fix it?

You can't even boot to a floppy? Try pressing F8, or delete, on bootup to get the safe mode options, then select "last known good configuration" and reboot. Thats worked for me many times in a pinch...

What type of boot disk were you using?

The floppy and CD may not be listed in the boot sequence, which you can check and add if need in BIOS. To enter BOIS check your owner manual or watch the monitor closely when you power on the PC it may show the key or keys needed to enter BIOS.

Well..I tried the f8/Delete thing, and nothing happened. As for the BIOS, I believe I have components in this order: Harddrive, Floppy, Disk, network devices. Pressing F8 or delete did absolutely nothing, are you sure it was not..say Alt + F8 and delete? I don't know what to do...I'm crying in frustration.

I got them both listed first..the diagnostics screen comes up..and it loads past that screen like if it was starting Windows XP, but it doesn't. It just stops...again. Any idea? Also...what's the button for safe mode? I'll try that...

To access the boot menu, which includes Safe Mode you depress the F8 key after the hardware list has been posted. If that does not work I recommend you try a Windows 98SE Startup diskette to see if the PC will work at all, which you can download from www.bootdisk.com.
