got windows 98sp1, got Pacific Digital 24x10x40x, used to work fine... now on boot up it is shown as a CDrom... won't write a CD... have tried different Burner programs... tried re-installing driver... heard it may be a registry issue... HELPPPPPPPPP!

If it has worked until recently and you have not added any new programs then the drive is probably DOA..they do go bad. Try it in another PC if you can to verify that it has met it's maker.
