hey

i upgraded my motherboard/processor and ram to a gigabyte k7 Triton Kt600 series with 2200Athlon Xp and 512 ram but kept the old PSU of 300watts.
now, it started and worked fine for an hour or so but then it automatically shutting down. i started again after a min but then it went down again after hald an hour.
i noticed that system temp were very high around 70C and 40C for CPU.
could this be the reason y system wont start anymore ? CPU busted ? (i've changed the PSU to a 400 watts now)
everytime i try switching it on it gives an audio beeping warning and switchs off after 5 scs.
tried different graphics cards to eliminate that.
anything else i can try here?

thx for ur help ppl.

also have a ati radeon 9800 256mb graphics.

Most likely a heat issue. You probably fried the CPU. Did you put the fan on correctly with a small amount of thermal grease between the fan and CPU?

certainly sounds like the CPU is overheating.

My XP 2600 never goes over 45C. 70C is about the limit of an XP CPU.

Try removing the heatsink and fan and reinstalling. You may have put the heatsink on backwards or something. The beveled edge goes over the plastic part of the socket.

Beeping?
Try looking in the back of your motherboard manual to see what the beep code you are getting means.

Is the beeping a two tone beep that sounds like a foriegn police siren just before the system shuts down? If so, try turning it on with the side cover off and make sure the CPU fan is turning. This is the beep sound that Gigabyte boards make to tell you that your system is over heating and it shuts down to protect the CPU. I got that same thing when I put mine together I had accidently knocked loose the HSF power connector.
