PartMgr and PCIIde entries w/ yellow exclamation marks in Device Mgr

Hi I noticed two entries with yellow exclamation points under "Non plug and play
drivers": PartMgr and PCIIde- both saying Code24 "device not present...not
working...or drivers not installed."

I recently have had a new external USB hard drive hooked up to my system
a few times, a Western Digital My Book Essential series, and installed,
partitioned and formatted the drive from FAT32 to NTFS file system. Since I
never had these error messages showing up in Device Mgr before I started
using the USB external drive, I assume they have something to do with it.
Nothing seems amiss so far with the operation but is this anything to be
concerned about? Btw, these errors/conflicts occur with or without the
external drive attached to computer.

Also using XP event viewer I found these two error messages several times
over the past few days:

Update: someone on another board suggested that at least with the PCIIde entry it maybe had something to do with my system's chipset and said to try downloading the Intel chipset software utility that will update drivers.
I went ahead and downloaded & installed the Intel Chipset software utility for my Intel 845G chipset- before I did I created a System Restore point. From what I gather the utility will update drivers that need it. After restarting the system I checked Device Mgr. and the entry PCIIde that had had a yellow exclamation mark was completely gone from the Non-plug and play drivers sub-heading. The entry PartMgr is just like before with a yellow exclamation mark and Code 24.

Okay I don't know exactly what that means about the PCIIde entry disappearing! Whether that's good or bad or what? Obviously the PartMgr is still there so I'm still left with questions. Any thoughts about this? Thanks.
I reverted the system back to its previous state with System Restore to undo the changes.
