Partition disappearing act

Greetings

Wondering if you can help - any ideas appreciated...

On a W95 PC of mine, it was setup with two partitions. The 3gb drive had one 2gb partition (C:\) and the remainder on the second partition (D:\).

Without any warning, my D:\ drive has gone! It's gone in Windows, Safe Mode and in DOS. Fdisk recognises the missing partition but doesn't give it a name.

Apart from wiping everything, is there any way to get back at the data?
