The only thing bad about P2P Networking going away is the fact you do not know WHY it went away. P2P is a potential source of spyware and is not considered a good thing to have on your computer. You are better off without it.

However, the best thing to do is get HiJackThis and post a scan in a reply to this thread. That will give us information to properly evaluate your question.

Please follow these steps:

First, create a folder in C:\Program Files and label it HiJackThis. This is where you will download the executable file. This is also the folder where your HJT backups will be stored. Click Here to download the file.

Close all windows, including this and any other browser windows. Launch HJT and click the Scan button. When the scan is finished, the Scan button will have changed to Save Log. Click that and save the log to your HJT folder. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING YET. Most of the listed items are harmless or even essential. Wait for recommendations from someone trained in HJT log file interpretation.

Now open the saved log file... In the toolbar at the top of the window under Edit, select Select All. Copy (Ctrl+C) the text and paste (Ctrl+V) it into a reply in this thread.

HI Ash1221,
Your log is clear of anything malicious or troublesome, just one thing to clean up,

Run Hijack again, put a check next to this entrie and click FIX,

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Your P2P networking was associated with a file sharing program if you had one, most likely this was uninstalled somehow, but like Raybro says, it is most often associated with some wicked spyware,

There wouldn't be any connection with it's removal and bad performance, in fact it should be just the opposite, your Hijack log doesn't show anything degrading to your pc's performance so I'd go back to your basic cleanup/tuneup/maintenance plan,

Cleanout all your 'junk' files, old programs, run your scandisk/defrag and you'll surely get a boost by cleaning your registry,

Here is the safest registry cleaner you'll ever use:
RegVac Registry Cleaner

AFter you open it, click on bottom tool bar to switch to NOVICE mode, then click 'clean registry' , the process will take a long time, wait it out till you see a pop up, make a note of how many entries it cleans for future reference, you could easily see 500, then click ok,

You will notice an improvement in your performance,

:)

I agree with starwaves77. Nothing really bad in your HJT log.

It would be a good idea to run Spybot, Adaware and an online virus scan just to be sure everything is cleaned out. Follow these steps.

Download Spybot S&D. Install Spybot, open it and click the Search for Updates button. When updates are found, put a check mark next to all and click the Download Updates button. Now click the Search & Destroy icon in the left pane, then the Check for problems button at the bottom of the window. When the scan completes, check all the items in RED, then click the Fix Selected Problems button.

Reboot your computer

Next, download AdAware. Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning Engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click Proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next)

Reboot your computer.

Now click Here and run an online virus scan:

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

Restart your computer. Run a new HJT scan and post it here for final review.

Thank you both for all your assistance today, but I still cannot figure out why I lose the internet. I am on a network here at work, and no one else is having this problem and we all use the same DSL Unit. I can access the internet as soon as I boot up, then moments later, GONE? What is going on with it?
