Hi Fox,

At first glance this tool look too simplistic. It allows to change the memory timings (which will probably result in screwing things up). Overclocking is best tended to in the bios - not online. It results in stressing the whole system and overheating. The AMD XP, I believe, was a locked CPU and cannot be altered unless some links are removed from the underside of the chip with a soldering iron.

I agree you need to adjust settings in the bios. Most of the xp line has locked multi, however there were some made with unlocked multis. In fact I have to go work on one of my old builds this morning with one.
Any overclock involves risk so make sure you can afford to replace parts before you start this task.

1 Enter the bios and adjust fsb from its current 166 up to about 175 or so. Your board should have a pci / agp lock so make sure it is set to lock the pci bus.

2 Run an app to check stability. I use prime95 for single core cpus. Let it run p95 for an hour or so. Check your temps while it is running. I like to see xps run <65C under full load.

3 Repeat the procedure upping the fsb and checking for stability. When you find the setting that returns errors, you can either back off to a known stable OC or if you are brave up the core voltage. In any case you need good cooling and good quality ram to get anything our of the OC.

Hi Crj,

Do you know if they were manufactured by AMD unlocked or just sold on by a third party?
I've unlocked them in the past but it's not a task for someone who hasn't soldered SMD before.

The mobil bartons were unlocked and some of the early 2600s were sold unlocked. I had one for a few years and then did a build for someone with it. I have to go over to his place this morning; he wants to connect 4 yes 4 optical drives and 2 hd. I have no idea why anyone would need 4 optical drives, however I have an old promise controller card sitting here not doing anything so I am going to install it for him.

I used to run 4 because of games (I never used the No-CD patches) but alas since they've decided to take 2 IDE ports off us now I've had to down to 2.
