I opened Outlook Express 6 and did this;

tools
options
maintenance
store folder

I stored my .dbx files on my desktop.
Then I copied them to My Documents

Now when I open OE...all my messages are gone. I can still see the files in My Documents, but I can't open them. I don't know what I did along the way to makle this happen.

My question is this:

How can I view my messages in OE?

Thanks very much.

Both things sound like a pretty risky thing to do.

Storing actual data files on the desktop, other than shortcuts, is inviting a problem since they are so easy to delete.

What exactly was copied.
If you go back into Outlook Express, where are the data files being stored.
Can you point them to the location where they were copied.

Thanks for your help Bob.

These were the files I copied:

Deleted Items.dbx
Folders.dbx
Offline.dbx
Pop3uidl.dbx
Drafts.dbx
Inbox.dbx
Outbox.dbx
Sent Items.dbx

Something went wonrg between the point the files were on my Desktop and the point when I dragged them into My Documents.

(I have another computer and I tried to re-do what I had done, but there was no problem there)

I know that when I put the files on the Desktop, I could still view them in OE.
When I moved them to My Documents, I couldn't see them.

Like I said, I did everything again on my other computer...same order.....and everything is fine. I honestly don't know where I make the mistake (if at all).
