Hi there,

A friend of my family has asked me for some advice regarding an error message they get eveytime they attempt to send an email with an image attachment. Incoming and outgoing email otherwise is fine. As they live far away I am unable to get to the PC to investigate properly.

Here is the errror message that is being recieved. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'photo', Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com'. Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '451 timeout (#4.4.4)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CC0F

I have not come accross this before.

Thanks for your help

Usually this indicates that they have antivirus scanning enabled on outgoing email, and the time taken to scan the large image file causes a timeout.

Disable the email outgoing scanning and try. If the incoming files were not detected as a virus, and background scanning did not detect the file as a virus when opened to attach, then the outgoing scan will not find anything.

By the way, the error shoud be 0x800CCC0F (one more "C") I believe.
