A friend called for help when her screen went "funny". As it turned out, it was reset to 600x480 and all her fonts were different. I got most of it squared away but- the fonts on the Outlook Express menu bar look to be 8pt Times New Roman. And they are very hard to read. I cannot find where to set those fonts. I've been all through Display properties but none of the itmes listed (e.g., Active Window, etc.) cover this situation. Do you know how to set those fonts??

Don,

It sounds like you are on the right track in the Display Properties.
The default font size is 8 pt.
I was able to change the menu bar font by going to the Appearance tab and click on the Active Window Menu Bar.
The Item field should read Menu and then select the desired font.
This is in Win 98.

Roger

We tried that. We could change the Active Window title bar, and all the other title bars, but none of these affected the text that accompanies the icons.

OE problem only? or desktop display?

desktop:
go back to the display window

choose settings,
- not appearance (appearance will change everything except the desktop - and that's what you want to change)

still shows as 800 x 600 ?
or did you reset it back to 1024 x 768? (the optimal for a lot of 17" monitors)

if so, you should be using large fonts

but it sounds like this is an OE only problem, right?

try this if it is OE only:

right click on an empty spot on the menu bar
customize
(or from main menu: view, layout, customize)

you have text options to choose from (sounds like you're using 'show text labels' or 'show selective...')
and
icon options
- small
- large

experiment with different combos, see what you like

(oooh, aaah, almost 100 posts LOL)

Don,

It sounds like we are confusing Menu Bar with Tool Bar.
The Customize function in O.E. is for the Tool Bar.
Menu Bars are set in Display Settings, Appearance.
After you click on the Active Window example make sure you select Item=Menu on the bottom part of the Appearance window.
It will show you what font is selected and allow changes.

Roger
