Every time that I load Outlook Express it will say checking mail and then my AOL Instant Messenger will pop up out of no where and then Outlook will freeze.. It wont let me click back in it, so I have to ctrl alt delete to get it off, but it doesn't say that Outlook is not responding... I have tried the repair thing in the Add/Remove programs but that didnt do anything to it... Can someone please help?!

Start Outlook Express off-line. if DUN tries to connect just click Cancel; Click the Tools menu; Options; Untick the box next to 'Automatically logon to AIM. click Apply; click OK. close OE then restart your computer. Now try opening OE on or off-line.

Hi,
Couple of things, what is your OS?
Are you setup with Norton's antivirus protection?

If your using Norton then try disabling it's 'email scan',
Run Norton and click Options.
Click Email Protection in the Options list.
-uncheck "Enable email protection ,"click OK.
---------------------

Some freezing in Outlook can be fixed by repairing a corrupted toolbar,

Enable your "hidden folders" .. then... Use your Search to Find and rename outcmd.dat to outcmd.old ,

Reboot computer, Open Outlook, hopefully it will. You will lose any customized toolbars, just create them again, they are controlled by outcmd.dat,

Also ........ you can easily have conflicts occurring with other programs and the only way to check that is trial and error by closing them one by one, you could test it by closing down Norton, Firewall, any 'operating' spyware removers in your Startup,

Go to Start / Run / msconfig <type
Click on 'Startup'

Uncheck your 'programs' a couple at a time, then check Outlook,
But always leave checked: Scan Registry & System Tray
