How might I stop OE from "losing" files/e-mails in the inbox and outbox every time it is restarted?

Basically..any e-mail that is downloaded from the mail server to the system disappears once OE has restarted.

OE was uninstalled..then deleted in safe mode..and reinstalled, but the problem still exists.


I think this is a result of a worm/virus attack, but all the AV scans I've used to date have failed to detect anything. Therein, I'm still trying to figure out why OE is acting this way and what I need to do to fix it...

To start with the easiest things first...open OE, go to View>Messages and click on "Show All Messages." See if the missing messages reappear.

Ya..that's a good thought, but "Show All Messages" didn't change a thing.

It was the default setting fwiw.


This still has me stumped and none of the AV/Spyware scans ever detected a thing.

Do you leave messages on server or delete them from there?

Also, check your message rules if you have added something by mistake that is doing the trick.

No rules setup at all and the messages disappear on the system after they are pulled from the e-mail server.

In other words..after hitting send & receive the messages disappear once OE is shut down and restarted. The inbox, outbox and such are empty no matter what was in them when the program was shut down.

I am having the same basic problem, but it started when in installed McAfee VirusScan (4.x) I believe this is a known problem wih OE 5.x and 6.x and VS 4.x. What I am hoping to do is repair / rebuild the .dbx files. I can see the .dbx files, but when I try to import them back into OE, it pulls nothing in. Does anybody have any other ideas or suggestions? I have found a lot of repair tools on the web for download, but they all seem to want between $30 and $50 for what I hope is a one-time repair...Ouch!

There are tools like DBEXtract or DBXtract. I don't know the examct URL. But I picked them up from here only. Take a search for them. You will surely find the site.
