There is an option to "Empty Deleted Items Folder Upon Exiting"

If this option is selected that would explain the problem. To check (and change it) Go to TOOLS --> Options. Under the "Other" Tab - this is the first option. Make sure the check box is blank. This should solve the problem, but remember you will have to empty the deleted items manually if you do this. I would suggest leaving it, and instead of deleting things you're not sure if you're going to want, set up another folder and move the mail there until you are sure.

I hope this solves it for you.

Take care

Thank you so much for your reply. This has happened on my husband's computer and I do not have it set to automatically delete. In fact, he had accumulated about 25 e-mails in the Deleted folder, and then they were suddenly all gone. None of the other folders seem to be affected. It would have taken some deliberate effort on his part to delete these, and he does not mess with those sorts of things. I just wanted to check on the off chance someone else had this happen in Outlook. Thank you for your help.

Outlook has a feature where it asks you if you want to archive old files. I don't know if it archives deleted folder or permanently deletes those files, but he may have had that option come up or it may be set on automatic. If you can remember a name of an email or the sender, try a search on your computer and see what you get.

It's a long shot, but it could also be some sort of virus. You could post in the security forum and see if anyone has heard of something like that. Of course a virus would be more likely to delete your current e-mails, but it's a thought.

The archiving sounds possible, but I believe it only archives older files.
