is there a tool that can optimize the pc's? I have many employees who are having hard times with having very few apps open (outlook, excel, word., things such as that) open and are receiving this error. I also have some receiving the error when trying to open email. Have done a disk cleanup and gotten rid of temp files and such. Just wondered what else could be done.

Are they sure they don't have a bunch of apps running in the background? Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to see. What OS? Depending, you can disable some of them from starting by running msconfig, go to startup tab.

I assume it doesn't always happen in certain apps? There are a few that have patches to resolve errors such as that.

Also make sure you run a complete, up-to-date virus scan on each system.

Out of curiousity, how much memory do they have?

Well, since we are running such "up to date" systems :):), we are running windows 98 and have about 64MB of mem. The main time it happens is when the employee is using Outlook. Our systems really stink. I am trying to convince management to go to at least 128MB, but I am just a little tech support person...so...you know. :):) (a little tech support person who gets most of my answers from you guys:) )

64 Megs should be plenty for your average user and 128 would be better. They should not be having that much trouble with applications if the machines are set up correctly. I noticed from another post they are having email attachment troubles as well. Did you ever scan these PC's for a virus?? From the out of memory messages and other problems it sounds suspiciously like a virus to me. I would get the most up to date definitions and scan everyone that is having problems. After that I would start doing some tweaking if they are clean.

The user is running windows 95. I just went to check with him and looked. I am running a virus scan now. Is there a way to shut things off in windows 95 (like using msconfig)?

WOW.....
Ran virus scan and did not come up with any virus's. This person has a pst file set up so I made a folder on the c drive called past backup to store a copy of the pst file in (just in case). When I opened the folder to copy the pst file into it, there was a file already there (managerscopy.eml). Big uhoh! So, I did a find files or folders on *.eml and there were 619 of these type of files. Went to our network and got the Nimda fix and ran it. Then extracted riched20.dll and now the user is not getting any errors.
I have to say though, this virus is the pits!!!!!:):)
