I'm thinking of building a new system and have some idea of the setup; here goes...

AMD 64 Bit - S2800 CPU
AM2 940 Mobo
GeForce 6100 256MB GFX card
250GB hard rive
1GB DDR2 RAM
7.1 Hi Def audio
18x DVD +/- RW Dual Layer

I've been quoted £395 incl tax, but I can do this myself for about £210 - should I?

Hmmm...cuz brand names are the best???

lol - okay - AMD CPU and mobo with integrated nVidia graphics/Yamaha sound
Western Digital HD and we finish off proceedings with a Sony optical drive.

Personally - I think this is a good setup. Please feel free to check my current specs to appreciatemy comment!!!

It depends on what you want the system to do.
It is fine for web surfing, reading e-mail, and doing excel or writing word docs.
It is NOT fine if you intend to try running games with it, want to do video editing, etc.

As to the question of whether you should build it or have it built, if you are comfortable working on things then I would do it yourself. If you are not comfortable working on things, then save yourself a lot of time and have a pro build it.
