Operating system upgrade

Hi, I have an old desktop computer that I don’t use very often, it is running Windows Vista. I realise that support has ended for this OS. Is there any way of upgrading to a later operating system without spending too much?

I think that your computer may be too old to upgrade to Windows 10. You can buy a refurbished one for under $200.00 (s/h fees may apply). It all depends on what you want to use your computer for.
It depends on the hardware itself. Each PC hardware make up is different, especially for OEM's.....HP and Dell and so on. The same goes for custom built PC's. I see people with 12 year old laptops running windows 10 with no issues will others wont budge.

Is there any personal data on there that's worth saving? Is so, back that up to a thumb drive or external drive of some kind.

Then take the plunge as see if the upgrade will take. In this case I'm not sure if the upgrade path will actually work. You may need to try a clean install. Go to the link and make a USB install media by down loading the MCT. This will creata a bootable USB drive to clean install windows10. Once that is done, then try the update now tab.

It will run a compatibility test first for hardware. It will tell you if it passes or not. If it does pass then the feature update will install.

Definitely yes. Probably dozens of free Linux distributions that will run fine on whatever that hardware is.

Zorin or Zorin Lite are excellent choices for older hardware. I found that Zorin has the best look and feel to windows than any other Linux version.
Bassfisher6522,

I'm just curious about why you posted a link to the new posts on TSG in your reply no. 3 as I don't see any reference to it in the text. 🙃
Did I....I didn't mean to. It was supposed to be a link to the Zorin download page.

My fault.....can you edit it for me. Thanks Karen!
