I hardly know where to start or what forum to use! I have an old computer that is my cousins...about 6 yrs old. It only will take 128 SDRAM. It seemed to working o.k., but a couple mo ago the CD-ROM quit on them. They had some photos they wanted to get off it, but no CD-RW. I got a new CD-ROM and CD-RW and installed it. In the meantime they got a new computer. I was able to get everything off it they wanted and was going to give it back to them for a back up or to play games on etc. It had Win 98SE on it with ME upgrade. I had it ready and was going to check one thing and put Norton back on it and when I turned it on the floppy drive blew. I got a new floppy and installed that & had it ready once again. I got Norton on it and also some of the micrsoft critical updates. Last night I turned it on once again and it wouldn't boot at all. Then it said it wouldn't recognize the hard drive and the Ulta66 BIOS wasn't installed. I checked to make sure everything looked o.k. inside and then when I tried to start it again nothing happened. No Power. I had a new pwr supply here & I replaced that, still nothing. Any suggestions?? I guess it's just too old and everything is about to go. I think he got it in '97.

you could try replacing the cmos battery
but if the p/s supply went it has probably taken some of the components with it

From the sounds of it, you put everything that was needed and necessary on the "new" pc. How much time and money are you willing to put into an old pc?

I have already put a lot of time into this ole pc. I really don't think it's worth fooling with any more. I'll just keep all the new components I put into it and build a new one eventually for myself. I will have half of what I need almost. I just built a new one for myself last April, so don't need it yet. Thanks for your thoughts!
