I have just recently aquired what is to me a new system. I need to know about the operating temperature, how high or low should it be. The system I have consists of an ASRock K7V88 motherboard and it has an AMD Sempron(tm) 2500+ 1.75 GHz processor on it. I also need to know where the temperature sensor should be placed inside the case, is it placed under the motherboard?

Usually the Cpu or motherboard has a Temp sensor built it. So all you really have to do is go into the Bios and there should be temp readings under there.

Thanks Sickcars for your reply. However, on my the front of my computer case there is an lcd temperature readout. When I first turned it on last night it was showing 324 c which I thought was high and do not want my motherboard or processor to get damaged. Inside the case there is temperature probe that is coming from the lcd display and I need to know where it should be placed, just let it lay inside the case or do I need to place it under the motherboard near the processor?

Well it depends on where you want to get a temp reading from. If you want the cpu you would put it under the heatsink. Motherboard then you would put it somewhere on the motherboard, or hdd etc etc etc.

BUT to get correct readings you want to check the bios and you can even run a program called speedfan which will tell you the temps also.
