Howdy Ho!

Mikey said if we had suggestions on what he should add to his To-do list, we should start a thread.

Well, here's the thread, so I'll start.

BTW, I would think that this should not be the place to degenerate any controversy, or wasted remarks and comments. this should be for suggestions, not debates.

please, if you are going to debate it, take it elsewhere. As far as I am concerned, this thread should just be for suggestions, and let Mike decide if they have merit, or if they need arbitration or discussion, OK??

If the suggestion has already been debated, then maybe put a link into the thread where it was brought up, so that people can refer to it, and then post their opinions on it.

1) Now, I would like to see an option to display more posts per page, as well as more threads per forum page, and more results per Search page, from this thread. **already shot down by the big guy:(**

2) I would like to see the Post Count split up between a Tech Post Count and a Social Post Count, with links that would search for posts in the relevant areas. This would also implement Oscar's suggestion of Posting profile. thread here

3) I would like to see a way to set default options per Forum, and not only site wide, or per page, such as Email notifications, items per page, etc. **Mike mentions this in his Official To-Do List thread**

4) Option to change skins on the site. This isn't for having Space Age themes, or anything like that. this would be to specifically have different Style sheets applied depending on the users requirements, such as people who have problems with certain colors and sizes of text. Having a "Normal" mode as default, but allowing a "Contrast" or "Extra Large" option to help those with eye troubles.

5) Extra text box being displayed to Junior Members telling them what should be posted so we can help. This thread

6) More smilies, this thread

Hiya Marlene,

I know the option for posts per page is there, but I wanted more than 40, and to have other options. that's why I posted a link to the page. To be fair about the suggestion, Mike said he probably wouldn't do it, which is why I included the comment about him shooting it down.

(1) Increase Posts per Thread - I did some research and looks like moving it to 75 should be just fine. Just added that option.

(2) Post Count Split - Yeah, this has been discussed over and over. I just added it to the official todo.

(3) Forum-Specific Notification Preference - I'm not going to be able to do this on a per-forum basis, BUT I hope to write a whole function to seperate Random. :)

(4) Large Font Templates - I wouldn't mind this too much, but it'd be kind of a pain to make changes in two or three different templates each time we make a change or do a hack... Besides, people can use View > Text Size... I don't know. Will take it into consideration once we have this layout in a more or less steady position.

(5) Notes for New Users - A lot of this is actually already added to vb3 for users with fewer than 5 posts. I'll post the exact text here later today that we can nick-pick at. :)

(6) More Smilies - I'm ok with a few more smilies (just don't want hundreds of them). I'll look into that, too, as we'll have to get them from a legal source (maybe have to buy them).

another is the specific post link. If you use a link to a specific post, it displays just that post, and you need to click the link at the top right of that to see the entire thread.

Is there a way to default it to the view it used to have, which was the entire thread, but with the focus on whichever post the link points to.

How about " Mark forum read " like we had before for each forum.
Really need to have it so it makes it more easy to go tru each one and mark it when your done.

Make the icon showing the threads you posted in show up better.
Like the black dot we had before.
Maybe keep the arrow but change the color of it from white to black or red or what ever makes it stand out better.

That is already there.

On the main Forum page, at the bottom of the Forum list, there is a link to Mark All forums read.

At the top of every forum page, there is a link for Forum tools, and that drops down selections, one of which is Mark this forum read

Yeah, I agree with that -- don't care much for the way vb3 does this, but might have to wait for someone else to hack it. I'll look around.

Wow it was there all this time and I was going nuts.
I was looking for it to be at the bottom of each forum like it used to be and still is for the main page.

I thank you Randy :up: Now I can have a restful nights sleep. :D

I would like to see a way to attach a file within a PM.

When viewing a user's profile under v2 it showed the user's home time zone. This was sometimes helpful in sorting out HJT entries that may not have made sense.

I don't think I want to dedicate space to PM attachments (although someone has already written a hack to do it)... I did like my hack to show the uer's home time zone, though. I'll put that on the list.

I have it set up so I NO NOT SUBSCRIBE in my profile and I am getting subscribed to every thread I post in. Well after seeing the big list of threads list that I had showing up in the subscribed list that I never ever subscribed to I did do a search on my post and sometimes mu post did not get a subscribed so now and then my setting to NO NOT SUBSCRIBE works but 99 % of the time it does not. :(

Driving me crazy Mike.

Can't duplicate that here... what method are you using to reply? (QuickReply box, Post Reply button, one of the quote buttons, etc)

I have used all 3 ways but the last couple here in the thread have been a QuickReply.
I will clear the SUBSCRIBED thread again and post this.
Clear it again and post the other ways to see what happens Mike.

Note:
Is the UN-SUBSCRIBED to this forum from the forum tools the same as going to your profile " List Subscriptions " and putting a check mark by it and then picking DELETE List Subscriptions?

I have gone to each forum and looked under "forum tools" and it has " SUBSCRIBED to this forum forum" showing. But make a post and it changes.

OK all clear now for testing and posting this as a QuickReply
