Office problems after Win XP reinstall

914 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  suehi
After re-installing Win XP & Office XP for Teachers & Students & the updates, I can't import my notes and contacts into Outlook. I saved them as Comma Separated Values Windows but I get an error message when I try to import.

Also, the Outlook bar only finds missing folders when I click on ony icon (eg contacts) but from the folder list there is no problem going to contacts or notes or any other folder.

Any advice much appreciated.

Sue:

What email program did you use before?

Also, you'll want to run Detect and Repair from the Help menu. You'll be asked if you want to "restore your shortcuts" and you'll say yes...
I've already done that & did it again, but it doesn't fix anything.

Thanks for the quick reply :)
I used Outlook & exported contacts & notes from Outlook.
You exported to CSV??
Here's what I would do if I were you (and have done before).

Create a note or two and a contact or two in your new Outlook.
Export them to an Excel file.
Open the CSV file from Excel.
See if you can copy/paste from the CSV/Excel into the OL/Excel file.

When you're all done...import...

As for your shortcuts, I personally hate them. Hee hee. I use the folder list always. Just delete the darn shortcuts, and drag from your folder list to your shortcut bar to recreate them. :)

I'll be watching for email notifs for an hour or so yet...

Nup, didn't work. I guess I'll have to copy them all by hand. The exporting & copy/paste was fine but I still got the error message saying the translator couldn't do it when I went to import.

I don't really use the shortcuts either. I just wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong :) Thanks
