OE6 Saved Passwords?

788 Views 7 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  eddie5659
I'm trying to save my password so that I don't have to enter it each time I enter OE6. I've gone to the Properties tab and entered my password and checked the "remember password" box. However, each time I open OE6, it prompts me for the password again. When I go back to the properties again, the password is gone. I've made sure I've "applied" the settings each time, but no luck.

XP Home and OE6. New computer (HP 7955 ), so I'm trying to do the initial setup. Any suggestions?

Hiya and welcome

Do you have Tweak UI installed? If not, don't worry about it.

Now, have a look here:

As this is not written for XP, you may be able to look at the listings for Win2000.

Are you using a log in and password when starting up Windows?

I am using XP home, no logon has been required at start up. (factory default?)

I don't have Tweak IU installed , or Powertoys, but I will get them.

It appears that Client for MS Networks was installed. I will recheck that.
I've installed Powertoys for XP and selected "Autologon"

Client for MS networks IS installed.

Still prompting for password each time I enter OE6. Hmm.
Okay

I assume that you're not networked, so lets try this.

Go to Find Files and type in *.pwl

Does anything come up? If it does, rename it to yourname.old, from yourname.pwl

You don't need TweakUI. I was just asking if you had it, as this can disable your saving the password bit.

btw, is the box greyed out, where you tick it to Remember password, or do you have to keep typeing it in?

No .pwl files came up during the search ( probably not good? )

The box for remember password in Account Properties is not greyed out, and I have to type in the password each time there. However, when I open OE6, it still prompts me.
As soon as I enter Tools.... Accounts....Mail Tab...Properties...Server Tab, and enter the password ( the save password box stays checked ) and exit the properties and re-enter it, the password is gone already. As mentioned in my previous post, I don't have ANY .pwl files, according to the search. I guess if XP is saving it, it should be saved somewhere, right?
Okay

Found this:

Just twigged. You're having problems with Outlook Express. phew!!, then have a look at the one here. (above)
