Hi, About 3 Weeks Ago I Noticed That 'notepad' Was Not Responding When I Clicked On It. I Cannot Be Sure But I Think That This Happened Just After I Had Installed Some Windows Xp Updates.

I Have Tried System Restore But Although There Are System Restore Points Highlighted For Almost Every Day On My Computer, System Restore Goes Through The Motions But On Boot Up It Always Reports That My System Cannot Be Restored To Whatever Date I Ask It To Restore To.

Because Of All My Programs And Files I Do Not Wish To Completely Reinstall Xp So Can Any Of You Good Folk Out There Suggest An Easy Alternative To Get My Xp Back To Its Complete And Happy Self.

Heres Hoping

Looks like you might have a worm/trojan/virus that Capitalizes Every New Word You Type Too. :p

I seem to remember there was a worm/virus a couple years ago that would take over Notepad. Do you have some sort of antivirus on your PC?
Get a copy of HijackThis and post a log, but don't fix anything yet.
Spybot and Ad-Aware can't hurt either.

Hi jeckler,

I dont think that the excess capitals were a result of a virus but more probaly due to the fact that I normally type everything with the capital lock on. My eyesight is not as good as it used to be (Mom said it would happen (lol)) so I find that it is easier for me to read the larger type.

I have McAfee visusscan, McAfee firewall and Lavasoft Adaware on my computer to try to keep the Dohickey's at bay. Here is a copy of what Hijack this found:

Sorry if I was out of line with my capitalization comment.

There's a few things that look odd or out of place, but I'll wait and see if someone else comes in before telling you to get rid of them....
This is related to AOL, but it's usually installed in the System32 folder. Maybe in v9 they moved it.

Filename doesn't come up in a Google search. Possible Trojan.

Jeckler, just read your thread. I can't help you with HJT but hope you get everything sorted and after you do(or even before you do) go here: and get metapad. It is far better than Notepad ever was. I have used it for maybe 2 years now. It is free and it is good. Good luck.
