Did you save the log? If so, what path did you follow for the log? What format did you save the log in? Did you delete notepad? Do you have any other word type programs?

Notepad.exe
I'm having problems with 125029.exe, so I read a bunch of posts and saw that i needed to download Hijackthis to get help. I did that and everything was fine until i needed to use Notepad in order to post my log thing on here. I don't know how to re-install notepad and i even went to microsoft.com for help but they didn't know how to help me. I tried using Wordpad instead but that doesnt seem to work. How do I get notepad to work? I'm using Windows XP. Thanks!

Try copying Notepad.exe back.

Yeah sounds like you have got something. And maybe even disabled your notepad. What you can do if Listers way doesn't help is right click the log file and choose open with, then choose MS Word if you have it or Wordpad. It should work in on of those.
ok, thanks for all the help so far. now i need to get rid of the 125029.exe problem. I always delete it but it still comes back. I also always delete a file called Website Veiwer, but it comes back too. Another problem is Websearch Toolbar. I can't seem to find where it is on my computer. Here is my log:

Anyways, go to www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html and download & install the program. This will prevent any reinfection. Make sure you update the program before continuing. (You can update it via the Update section)

Also, go to www.majorgeeks.com and under Spyware section on the left, download and install Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and CWShredder. These will get any remains left behind. Remember to update them too.

reboot your machine then when it starts loading right at the beginning, tap F8 until you get a menu. Select Boot to Safe Mode.

I couldn't find the WINTOOLS folder or the WEBSAVINGSFROMEBATES folder. I went to add/remove programs and tried to remove the websavingsfromebates program but a WJVEIW ERROR popped up and said: ERROR: could not locate Java Virtual Machine: class not registered.
Sorry WinTools is in C:\Program Files\Common Files looks like we need to do it again. Most of the stuff is the same as the last time. When you delete the them in HJT and go into safe mode, delete the WinTools folder and also delete the WINUPDATExxxxx.exe files. I believe they are in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32. Make sure you can see hidden files by going to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab > choose Show hidden files and folders.

Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK.
After you have done all three, exit the Services utility.
Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.

In the main window: Click Start and under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.
Deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
To start the scan, click the Next button.
When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and then click Next)
Reboot and post another HJT log.
i still can't get rid of wintools or toolbar. when i try and delete them, an error thing pops up and says that it is being used by another person or program and can't be deleted.

Download 'SpSeHjfix'. to the desktop and then
right click a blank part of desktop & select new folder, call it spfix
unzip the file into that folder
Disconnect from the net and Close ALL OPEN PROGRAMS.
Run 'SpSeHjfix'. and click on "Start Disinfection".
When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.
The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder.
If it doesn't find any of the SE files or any hidden reinstallers it will say system clean and not go on to next stage
Now run the Shredder - Hit The FIX button!
Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and the log that was created by 'SpSeHjfix'.

i downloaded cw-shredder and now i can't find it anywhere on my comp. and spsehjfix doesn't work. when i click on it, a pop-up comes up and says that an error has been encountered and the program has to shut down.

When you download something you have to tell the machine where to save the file to. I suggest saving it to your desktop so you can find it.

i already deleted those files. i found cw shredder, so i'll run that but spse program still won't work.
