Microsoft says my Norton Uninstall program is causing my computer to crash. The program will not remove itself, and the add/remove program in the control panel says: "Unable to locate the installation log file. Uninstallation will not continue." Norton doesn't even recognize the software anymore, so it's pretty old. (WIn 98 or ME) The problem may be that the old Norton software won't work in XP. How can I get rid of Norton Uninstall? Thank you. Willard

Go to Symantec website and use the Search function. When there, type in: how to uninstall (name of Norton product). Click on one of the results and locate on the page the section that gives instructions for manually uninstalling Norton. This is tedious, but it's about the only way you can completely clear your system of any and all vestiges of Norton.

Symantec provide tools that are supposed to remove the older programs (up to 2003) but the later ones are all manual uninstall (and you may still need a good Registry cleaner to be really sure).

Here's a link to some general information;http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...=&miniver=&tpre=&prev=&dtype=&src=bar_sch_nam

If the program causing problems is NIS there is the Rnis removal tool and for NSW you need SymClean (Ithink!). Search here if you need to;http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...&ver=&pcode=&src=&miniver=&tpre=&prev=&dtype=

You never say whether you still have the whatever Norton Program CD. Reinstall it and then uninstall again. It sometimes works this way. If not you have to download Uninstaller Professional 2004 ver 6.7 which you can download from www.pcworld.com. This program gives you a trial perial of 30 days, make full use of it to uninstall stubborn programmes. Hope that solves the problem.
