i am running a dual boot system with window 2000 and windows Xp. i tried to ghost my hard drive but i got an error message containing "unable to find free MBR slot in virtual partition dll. I went on to the norton site with this problem and read that i should either re-partition my hard drive or boot my computer from a norton boot disk. I have not yet tried a norton boot disk because i have no floppy drive and the software does not give me the option to create a bootable cd

I suspect you are using a boot manager that has consumed all four of the slots in the partition table. That being the case, you can't run the GUI version of Norton GHOST, I've run across the same issue myself.

You can build a bootable floppy on another system, and put it onto a bootable CD with something like Nero.
